Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was sentenced of orchestrating a armed takeover in last fall and given more than 27 years in prison, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a safety action after fresh information emerged.

This included trying to remove his tracking device and a invitation to a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the custody, Justice Moraes said data from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his getaway".

This, it said, would be made easier by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his child.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday evening.

The senator wrote on digital networks on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or watch it all from your smartphone there on your sofa? I urge you to fight with us."

He said the vigil would be so followers could offer prayers for his health and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our country."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of Justice Moraes's ruling was the possibility of the former president's move to foreign missions near the residence, considering that the probes revealed a background of organizing to ask for protection through a consular facility", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork highlights that the United States embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is located around 13km from the former president's residence.

Worldwide Consequences

Bolsonaro's legal woes have provoked anger from fellow conservative nationalist United States President President Trump, prompting him to enact a half-rate duty on imports of Brazilian goods.

He is being kept in a Federal Police station in Brasilia and will experience a imprisonment assessment on Sunday.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on the previous day that the former president's lawyers asked the Top Court to permit him to complete his entire prison term under home confinement, with tracking devices.

They also petitioned that the former president be permitted to exit his dwelling for medical treatment, saying he required regular treatment for respiratory ailments and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

The former president was found guilty of leading a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the presidential race to his political opponent, Lula.

High Court judges said that he was aware of a plan which included plans to kill Lula and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been overseeing the former president's case.

The plot was prevented because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the army and air force commanders. His successor was sworn in without problem on 1 January 2023.

But a week later, on January 8th, many his backers invaded and destroyed public facilities in the national capital, Brasília.

The law enforcement stepped in and around 1,500 people were taken into custody.

The magistrates found that the rioters had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the country's army to intervene, reestablish control and bring him back to power.

At the period, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the over 27-year sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also banned from running for public office until 2060 - eight years after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the court case a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him running in the 2026 presidential election.
